Eye Magazine, 1968

I spent a very lovely Christmas with my family back in Texas, where I was fortunate enough to have good time spent with relatives as well as quality quiet time to unwind. One of my favorite things to do whenever I'm there is leaf through old books and photos around the house, and comb through favorite old antique malls and thrift spots for interesting treasures. This year the real treasures came not from my own searching or shopping, but when my father emerged from the back of the house after dinner Christmas night, and placed a few old issues of Eye Magazine on the table.
"I got these when they came out, and for whatever reason just kept them around," he said. "I had completely forgotten they existed, but when I was looking through some stuff the other day there they were, and I thought you might be interested."

Of course I was! I scanned in some of the best pictures from each copy of this amazing youth culture magazine that belonged to my dad at the age when he would have fit that young demographic and that have been kept in his care all these years, filled with articles on popular music and fashion (like the one about the "electric" glow-in-the-dark dresses, and psychedelic box kites!), and I thought you might be interested in them, too!

Wonderwall

Though this 1968 film isn't exactly a masterpiece of the ages, Wonderwall is a classic slice of pop culture from the era.

Chock-full of the standby trippy colors and eastern-influenced music with a soundtrack composed by George Harrison, the plot cliché of the stodgy old square who is fascinated and enlightened by a beautiful young flower child (Jane Birkin as the model Penny Lane) can be forgiven if the film is enjoyed as a simple bubble of '60s eye-candy. With the film's set designed by sixties darlings The Fool, the prominent Dutch design collective, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the visuals of the movie, and, as the tagline suggests, to

The Magical Worlds of You Si

Chinese artist You Si has truly created some fantastic paintings.
Not only are they gorgeous swirls and loops of color, but where it gets really interesting is his method: he uses an eyedropper to shoot the ink down onto xuan paper, casting intricate and complex jungles of paint and taking the viewer to a garden of colorful delight.
